My name is Teneale D’Costa and I am currently studying a double degree in Criminology and Cyber Security. I began developing an interest in IT from the time I began studying the subject back in high school in year 9. With technology being exposed from early stages of high school, I slowly developed and interest on how IT works, why do we use IT in our everyday life, how it has effectively changed the way we maneuver in our everyday, and the benefits and disadvantages of it. Criminology has also played a massive role in my interest in IT. Although technology is used in our day-to-day life, the lack of knowledge in such an increasing trend and how it affects our world, amuses my interest. Technology is created to compete with the complete transition of our society, yet we forget that with this brilliant invention, also comes with the risk of silent crimes and offences being committed.

My career aspirations for my future job would hopefully adopt a few of my key values and skills such as embracing a balance lifestyle between home and work and having those barriers that splits the two environments so they’re not being clashed together. In saying this, I want my work assignments to be kept at my job, where the environment is professional and strictly business oriented and I want my social and family life to be at home, where the environment is relaxed and there’s no hassle about my job. I would also like to produce a level of expertise not only to prove myself in the organisation that I am working for but to also show that I am capable of expanding my knowledge in various areas of the business. Hopefully, with these aspirations, I would be able to use the skills and knowledge that I have received from my degree of Criminology and Cyber Security. Also working with IT equipment would help enhance my ability to succeed in my future career.

With the research that I have obtained about many future careers that I could proceed into once I finish my degree, I have come to a few likely conclusions that deeply interest me and will require the skills that I will develop on in my education. The first two take into consideration the cyber side of degree. ‘Cyber Security Consultant’ includes being able to consult clients of a certain organisation and guiding them to understand what is security and they safety precautions that is needed to be taken when addressing risk factors that could potentially destruct and organisation. Another possible career option is a ‘Cyber Security Engineer’ which includes, like the consultant job, consulting clients and delivering various outcomes for cyber security documentation. These documentations must provide solutions, create validations and identify cyber security threat intelligence. A ‘Security Analyst’ for a large organisation provides support with operational technical specialists in delivering services and technical support for security technologies. People in this job are also responsible for the development of reports that ensure the systems are up to date with the policy standards of the organisation. Lastly, ‘Victoria Police’ has been on my list of future possible careers for a while now. It compliments both criminology and cyber security and is supported by public service professionals.
